What is Invetor?
Inventor is a computer aided software program where you can create sketch 2D parts and create 3D parts from it. It is a very good website for engineering parts because of its versatility and flexibility when it comes to you creating designated parts. It also very precise and incredibly accurate when it comes to dimensioning/creating your part.
How to Make a Widget
Step 1 - After entering the Inventor Program, click on 'Part' to start creating your widget.
Step 4 - Using the Line/Rectangle Tools, draw the base of your widget and dimension it using the Dimension Tool.
Step 7 - So now after finishing the sketch, you are going to use the Extrude tool to cut away the triangle portions of it, leaving you with clipped corners. Just make sure you go backwards and not forward/middle otherwise it will add and not remove it.
Step 10 - Now for the last feature of the widget, start a 2D sketch on the 'seat' of the part as it looks kind of like a chair. This should still be the top of your part.
|
Step 2 - After entering into your part file, click on start 2D Sketch in the top left hand corner.
Step 5 - Using the Extrude Tool, extrude the sketch 1 inch. This will then create a 3D object for you to work off of.
Step 8 - After removing the triangles, draw the back portion of the widget on a 2D sketch on the top of the part.
Step 11 - Now draw the final feature of the widget, the central hole using the Line/Rectangle tools and dimension it with the Dimension tool.
|
Step 3 - After starting your 2D sketch, click on the XY Axis as this will properly orientate your widget.
Step 6 - Now, using the Sketch Tool, create a sketch on the top part of the 3D shape. You will then draw the other parts of the widget. (Due note that you can only do one step at a time, like cutting the triangles away or extruding the back part)
Step 9 - After finishing the sketch, extrude the back portion of it .75 inches as the whole area of the part is 1 sq. inch.
Step 12 - You have now successfully completed Widget #6!

MAKERBOT
Inventor/Makerbot Summary
This unit has been very eye opening in the fact that I had never known all of the possibilities that Inventor/MakerBot could do and severely exceeded my expectations and expected limits on it. I increased my knowledge on 3D modeling and understood more how the printing process of the widget works. I also learned more about the concept of Isographic paper and how it is so valuable when drawing parts say like the widget. Overall I loved this unit and it will help me immensely if I decide to aim my career towards design and engineering.
